Letter to the Browne Academy Community

Dear Browne Academy Community:

With a mix of gratitude for her service and bittersweet emotion, the Board of Trustees announces our beloved Head of School, Peggy Otey, will be retiring in June 2026 after more than 11 years of dedicated service to Browne Academy.

Peggy's leadership has been instrumental in shaping Browne Academy into the thriving and vibrant school it is today. Her unwavering commitment to our students, passion for innovative education, dedication to our faculty and staff, and deep care for the growth of our community have left an indelible mark on our school, and each of us. We are immensely grateful for her contributions and wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.

As we celebrate Peggy's legacy, we also look forward to an exciting new chapter for Browne Academy. The Board of Trustees is forming a Search Committee, chaired by Cecelia Prewett. The Search Committee will include staff, parents, board trustees, and alumnus. We are also pleased to announce that we have partnered with IndySchool Consultancy, a leading search firm specializing in independent schools, to assist us in this important process. IndySchool Consultancy brings a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of our school's mission and values, and a commitment to finding the best possible leader for Browne Academy.

To find the best possible leader, we need your engagement and dedication and we’ve created several opportunities to hear from you. Both of us will be in the Lower School Library TOMORROW, Friday, January 10 from 8AM-9:30AM to provide an opportunity for your input and feedback. Next, in the coming weeks you’ll be emailed a community engagement survey from IndySchool Consultancy. It will take about 10 minutes to answer the survey focused on what our community wants in our next Head of School. Next, we also ask you to make time to meet with the consultants on campus over the next few months. Lastly, there is an opportunity to meet 1:1 with the consultants.

Together, we will help them conduct a thorough and inclusive search to find the right person who embodies the qualities and vision that will guide Browne Academy into a bright future.

We know you may have questions and we want to be as transparent as possible so we have listed our cell phones below. In the coming weeks we will announce the members of the search committee as well. We are confident that this process will result in the selection of an outstanding leader who will continue to inspire our students, support our faculty, and build upon the strong foundation that Peggy has established.

Please join us in expressing our gratitude to Peggy for her exceptional leadership and in welcoming this new chapter for Browne Academy.
