Available Positions

Full-Time 12-month position

Oversees curriculum development, learning objectives, assessment, and academic standards. Works with faculty to coordinate curriculum throughout the school, reviews and selects texts and learning materials, and communicates all curricular matters to constituents. Provides professional development opportunities and instructional resources for faculty.

Areas of Responsibility:

1. Curriculum

· Ensure the school’s curriculum is continuously under review relative to fulfillment of the school’s mission and core values.

· Program evaluation and improvement.

· Facilitate the on-going assessment and communication of program strengths and weaknesses within and among departments and/or grade levels.

· Facilitate the on-going review of curriculum materials and texts.

· Develop and implement on-going measures of program appropriateness and effectiveness.

2. Program Coordination

· Research, advise, and lead the implementation of an outstanding whole-school curriculum.

· Ensure the whole school curriculum provides the sequencing, diversity and challenge that represents the best offerings for students at every age.

· Ensure decisions around whole-school curriculum, teaching, and learning are informed by current relevant and robust educational research.

· Work with the Associate Head of School to review departmental curriculum and staffing matters.

· Aid faculty and departments in preparation of course syllabi.

· Align assessment and policies to achieve strategic priorities and support student well-being.

· Oversee the management of learning technology systems in terms of hardware, software, and devices.

· Work with the Network Manager to ensure the correct set-up of the school’s management system in terms of timetables, class lists, and reporting cycles

3. Assessment and Reporting

· Oversee that assessment and reporting for the school is in line with school policy and is developmentally appropriate for the age of students.

· Analyze internal and external assessments data and provide meaningful information for teachers to ensure adequate planning and interventions for students.

· Facilitate students’ progress reporting to parents in a meaningful way that enhances student learning.

· Maintain an updated articulation of the whole-school curriculum and take the leadership role in preparing for VAIS accreditation.

 

4. Faculty Education and Development

· First and foremost, respect faculty as professionals who are knowledgeable and dedicated to the mission and core values of the school.

· Organize and support high-quality professional development to ensure that the school’s curriculum and overall programs appropriately challenge and meet the needs of our student body.

· Ensure all teaching staff undertake regular and purposeful Professional Learning.

· Assist the Associate Head of School in faculty evaluation and new faculty orientation.

 

5. Student Support

· Work closely with faculty to support student learning and behavior in and outside of the classroom.

· Coordinate and lead parent meetings when appropriate to support teachers’ efforts in scaffolding for students’ success.

· Provide guidance in determining the suitability of a student attending Browne: before and after admission to the school.

· Fulfill other duties as requested by the Head of School

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education; master’s degree in education preferred.
  • Curriculum review or design experience
  • 10+ years of teaching experience, preferably in an Independent School setting.
  • Successful history of collaboration, curriculum assessment and design across grade levels, and working with a wide range of learners.
  • Practical understanding and implementation of educational technology
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral skills.

Dance Specialist: 

Browne Summer Camp is an ACA-accredited coed day camp for ages 3 – 13. We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated dance specialist who loves camp and kids. Experience working with children is required. 

Dates: June 17- August 9

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm

Pay: $12-19.75/hour based on experience

Dance Specialist

As a Camp Dance Specialist, your role is to create a fun and inclusive environment where campers can learn and enjoy different dance styles. Overall, you play a crucial role in creating a fun and enriching experience for campers, helping them develop their dance skills, confidence, and teamwork abilities.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Create dance routines suitable for the age group and skill level of the campers. Incorporate different styles of dance such as but not limited to hip-hop, jazz, or ballet.
  • Conduct daily dance sessions, teaching campers the choreographed routines. Provide clear instructions and demonstrations to help campers learn and improve their dance skills.
  • Coordinate with camp administration to organize dance performances and showcases where campers can demonstrate what they have learned. This could be a part of a talent show, camp-wide event, or a specific dance performance.
  • Ensure that dance activities are conducted in a safe environment. Pay attention to proper technique and provide guidance on preventing injuries.
  • Create an inclusive atmosphere where campers of all skill levels and backgrounds feel welcome and encouraged to participate.
  • Foster a sense of teamwork and collaboration among campers during dance activities. Encourage campers to support and motivate each other.
  •  Plan and manage your time effectively to cover all planned activities and ensure that campers get the most out of their dance experience.
  • Maintain open and clear communication with campers and other staff members. Provide feedback and encouragement to campers to help them improve their dance skills.
  • Serve as a role model for campers by demonstrating enthusiasm, professionalism, and a positive attitude towards dance and learning.

Qualifications: 

  • Strong background in dance with proficiency in various styles such as but not limited to:  hip-hop, jazz, or ballet. Professional dance experience or training is preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching or leading dance classes, workshops, or camps, especially with children or teenagers. 
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively teach dance routines, provide feedback, and communicate with campers and staff. 
  • Ability to create engaging and age-appropriate dance routines that cater to the interests and abilities of campers.
  •  Patience to work with campers of varying skill levels and enthusiasm to motivate and inspire them.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other camp staff to coordinate activities and ensure a positive camp experience for all participants.

  • The Dance specialist should have the physical stamina to dance and teach for extended periods.

Browne Summer Camp is an ACA-accredited coed day camp for ages 3 – 13. We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated group counselors who love camp and love kids. Sports, arts and crafts, swimming – we have it all! Browne Summer Camp is hiring counselors for summer 2024. As a camp counselor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and care of campers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and enjoyment throughout their day at camp. You will lead and participate in various camp activities, promote positive social interactions among campers, and serve as a role model for behavior and attitude.

Dates: June 17 – August 9

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm

Pay Range $12-19.75/hour based on experience

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times
  • Plan, organize, and lead games, sports, arts and crafts, creek walks and other activities
  • Monitor campers’ behavior and enforce camp rules and policies

  • Strong swimming skills and the ability to swim long distances
  • Good physical condition and stamina to perform rescues and remain alert for long periods
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Previous lifeguarding experience (preferred but required)

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise campers (ages 3-14) during swim time to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Enforcing pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe and orderly environment
  • Responding quickly and effectively to emergencies, including performing water rescues and administering first aid as needed.
  • Teach group and private swim lessons
  • Maintain health, safety, and professional standards at the pool under the guidance of the Pool Director and camp administration 
  • Conducting regular inspections of the pool and equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness
  • Assisting with pool maintenance tasks as needed
  • Additional duties as required by administration

Qualifications

The Nurse is responsible for all issues relating to the health and welfare of the students during their attendance at the school.  Serves as a liaison to parents on health and wellness issues and provides education/training on health issues to students, staff & families.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification issued by an authorized agency
  • Minimum of two years’ professional nursing experience, preferably in a school or pediatric setting

Key Responsibilities:

The nurse is responsible for all issues relating to the health and well-being of Browne Academy students and staff during their attendance at the school.  These include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Head of School and Administrative team with the development and maintenance of school health policies.
  • Provide nursing care to ill or injured students or staff during the school day.
  • Provide health information and in-service programs on health topics including blood borne pathogens to faculty and staff.
  • Provide health related classroom instruction.
  • Manage school health records in accordance with Virginia state and Department of Social Services regulations.
  • Maintain accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.
  • Initiate contact with, and acts as a liaison between home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
  • Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, staff, and school families to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of the students.
  • Other projects and tasks as communicated by supervisor or Head of School.

We are seeking enthusiastic and qualified applicants to join our Auxiliary Services Department in the After-Care Program. The ideal applicant is someone who enjoys working with children, ages 3-13 years of age. Applicants should excel in supervision, activity planning, and reliability. The core schedule is Monday-Friday, 3:00-6:00PM, and this position is paid based on experience and qualifications. Pay range: $11.00-$16.00.
