Browne Academy Places 2nd in VA State We the People Competition!

January 29, 2024

On Saturday, January 27th, our 8th graders embarked on an exciting journey to Randolph-Macon College to participate in the prestigious “We the People” competition organized by the Center for Civic Education. This event serves as a platform for young minds to showcase their civic competence and sense of responsibility, promoting a deeper understanding of our nation’s Constitution and Bill of Rights among upper elementary and secondary students.

In the middle school category of the Virginia state competition, Browne secured 2nd place! This remarkable accomplishment highlights the dedication and hard work of our 8th graders. It underscores their commitment to civic education and willingness to engage in meaningful discussions about the foundations of our democracy.

This achievement is a testament to our students’ talent, knowledge, and teamwork. They spent countless hours preparing, studying, and delving into the complexities of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Their efforts have earned them recognition and contributed to their growth as informed and responsible citizens. Their thoughtful responses demonstrated that they were not only comfortable with historical references but could apply those concepts to modern-day examples.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our 8th graders who represented Browne with passion and dedication at the “We the People” competition. We also want to thank Ms. Kharkar, the mentors, and the parents who supported our Bruins throughout this journey.

A Browne education equips students with the skills to excel in public speaking, starting as early as age three when they begin presenting at assemblies and concerts in front of live audiences. Congratulations to all the participants in this year’s competition!
