The Director of Studies is a mission-driven individual who follows, models, and embraces Browne Academy’s mission and core values. The Director of Studies oversees curriculum development, learning objectives, assessment, and academic standards. Works with faculty to coordinate curriculum throughout the school, reviews and selects texts and learning materials, and communicates all curricular matters to constituents. Provides professional development opportunities and instructional resources for faculty.

Areas of Responsibility:
1. Curriculum
· Ensure the school’s curriculum is continuously under review relative to fulfillment of the school’s mission and core values.
· Program evaluation and improvement.
· Facilitate the on-going assessment and communication of program strengths and weaknesses within and among departments and/or grade levels.
· Facilitate the on-going review of curriculum materials and texts.
· Develop and implement on-going measures of program appropriateness and effectiveness.

2. Program Coordination
· Research, advice, and lead the implementation of an outstanding whole-school curriculum.
· Ensure the whole school curriculum provides the sequencing, diversity and challenge that represents the best offerings for students at every age.
· Ensure decisions around whole-school curriculum, teaching, and learning are informed by current relevant and robust educational research.
· Work with the Associate Head of School to review departmental curriculum and staffing matters.
· Aid faculty and departments in preparation of course syllabi.
· Align assessment and policies to achieve strategic priorities and support student well-being.
· Work with the Network Manager to ensure the correct set-up of the school’s management system in terms of timetables, class lists, and reporting cycles.

3. Assessment and Reporting
· Oversee that the assessment and reporting for the school is in line with school policy and is developmentally appropriate for the age of students.
· Analyze internal and external assessment data and provide meaningful information for teachers to ensure adequate planning and interventions for students.
· Facilitate student progress and report to parents in a meaningful way that enhances student learning.
· Maintain an updated articulation of the whole-school curriculum and take the leadership role in preparing for VAIS accreditation.

4. Faculty Education and Development
· First and foremost, respect faculty as professionals who are knowledgeable and dedicated to the mission and core values of the school.
· Organize and support high-quality professional development to ensure that the school’s curriculum and overall programs appropriately challenge and meet the needs of our student body.
· Ensure all teaching staff undertake regular and purposeful Professional Learning.
· Assist the Associate Head of School with hiring and orientation of new faculty.

5. Student Support
· Coordinate and lead parent meetings when appropriate to support teachers’ efforts in scaffolding for students’ success.
· Provide guidance in determining the academic suitability of a student attending Browne: before and after admission to the school.
· Fulfill other duties as requested by the Head of School

Qualification Requirements:
· Master’s degree in education.
· Curriculum review or design experience
· 10+ years teaching experience, preferably in an Independent School setting.
· Successful history of collaboration, curriculum assessment and design across grade levels, and working with a wide range of learners.
· Practical understanding and implementation of educational technology
· Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
· No or very little physical effort required.
· Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Browne Summer Camp is an ACA-accredited coed day camp for ages 3 – 13. We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated staff who love camp and love kids. Sports, arts and crafts, swimming – we have it all!

We are seeking enthusiastic and qualified applicants to join our Auxiliary Services Department in the After-Care Program. The ideal applicant is someone who enjoys working with children, ages 3-13 years of age. Applicants should excel in supervision, activity planning, and reliability. The core schedule is Monday-Friday, 3:00-6:00PM, and this position is paid based on experience and qualifications. Pay range: $11.00-$16.00.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and administers regular individual and group instruction meetings with students and prepares reports to document academic progress.
  • Assists students to develop learning strategies that support individual success, which may include instructions on compensatory study skills, test taking strategies, time management, course tutoring, etc.
  • Assists students with understanding individual course assignments, developing short and long-term goals to meet deadlines, and reviewing progress.
  • Trains students in the use of assistive technology. 
  • Support teachers with reformatting class materials to meet approved accommodations.
  • Maintains regular communication with faculty, academic advisors, and other 
  • Maintains and updates confidential files and records
  • Works closely with the school Counselor to support the emotional well-being of Guided Study students.
  • Attends Parent-Teacher conferences as needed to discuss progress of guided study students.
  • Reads and summarizes all outside testing evaluations for students in grades 5-8 and for admissions as necessary.
  • Writes individual learning plans that will target students’ specific curricular/learning needs.
  • Counsel families on learning support, assessment, and accommodations.
  • Support teaching staff by offering resources, assistance, and training to enable faculty to meet the needs of all learners better.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Head of School. (i.e., recess supervision, teaching an elective, advisory, etc.)

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field; graduate degree preferred
  •  3+ years of successful experience in a learning specialist or related role. Independent school experience preferred
  • Passionate about working with middle school-aged children
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities, psycho-educational tests, reports, and assistive technology
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and parents
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain professional confidentiality, positive attitude, personable, flexible approach, and a sense of humor
